Stamp Duty

Stamp Duty (Stamp duty Land Tax) is a UK tax on property over a certain value. It is payable when you buy the property.

From April 1st 2015 in Scotland Stamp Duty becomes The land and Building Transaction Tax.

How much is Stamp Duty?
For residential properties the rate are:

  • nothing on the first £125,000 of the property price
  • 2% on the next £125,000
  • 5% on the next £675,000
  • 10% on the next £575,000
  • 12% on the rest (above £1.5 million)
